Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy and Laisterdyke Leadership Academy have joined forces to launch a foodbank for vulnerable people as part of the Star Academies Coronavirus Appeal.
The two schools, which are operating out of the Star Family Hub based at Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy, have been collecting donations of food, toiletries and cleaning supplies to distribute to those in need.
The foodbank is open between 11am-2pm, every Wednesday, at Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy’s site on Dick Lane and will provide help to those in need in the local community.
Staff at the schools have been overwhelmed by the generosity of their colleagues, pupils, parents and local and national businesses who have all helped to support the good cause.
Staff were grateful to receive donations from Mibelle, The Hygiene Bank, Hovis, Princes Food, Britvic, The Foodbank, Bradford, FareShare and Morrisons.
Clare Daddy, Principal at Thornbury Primary Leadership Academy, said: “I am incredibly proud of our staff who have worked very hard to support local families through the coronavirus crisis.
“Thanks to the kindness and generosity of our parents, staff, pupils and businesses, we have been able to provide much needed support to hundreds of vulnerable families and people in our community.
“We are pleased to have been able to make a difference during these times of need.”
Karen Jones, Principal of Laisterdyke Leadership Academy, added: “It has been heart-warming to see how our schools have rallied to help those most in need during this crisis.
“It is wonderful to know that the spirit of community is alive and well in Bradford.”
The coronavirus fundraising appeal is just one of several initiatives that has been launched by Star Academies and its schools to help those facing difficulties in our local communities and to support parents and carers throughout the country.
A home learning helpline, StarLine, has been launched to help give practical education advice to parents and carers and a YouTube broadcast StarLive is broadcast weekly to help parents as they educate their children at home.
